Chief People Officer

Shape the future workforce of a major infrastructure business. Executive leadership role with genuine influence and long term impact.

About Our Client

Our client is one of Australia’s most respected privately owned infrastructure, civil construction and mining businesses. With operations across Queensland and New South Wales, a workforce supporting more than 60 active project sites, and a reputation built on delivery excellence, the business continues to experience significant growth and expansion.

What makes this organisation different is its belief that people are central to business performance. As the company continues to scale, attracting, developing and retaining exceptional talent has become one of its most important strategic priorities. This focus sits at the heart of executive decision making and is viewed as a critical enabler of future growth.

Supported by an experienced executive team and strong operational leadership, the business offers the rare combination of stability, ambition and genuine appetite for change.

The Opportunity

There are very few People & Culture leadership opportunities where the function sits so directly at the centre of a company’s growth strategy.

This role has been created to lead the next evolution of the People & Culture function as the business continues to grow in scale, complexity and capability. Reporting directly into the Executive Leadership Team, you will lead a significant national function encompassing recruitment, industrial relations, learning and development, people advisory and workforce capability.

You will be responsible for shaping and executing the people strategy while ensuring the function remains closely connected to operational delivery. The role carries responsibility for workforce planning, succession planning, leadership development, talent attraction, employee engagement and organisational effectiveness across a large and geographically diverse workforce.

Equally important is the opportunity to influence how People & Culture partners with Operations. The business is seeking a leader who can strengthen relationships, empower leaders to make better people decisions and create a function that is viewed as a trusted commercial partner across the organisation. Insights from executive leadership highlight a clear focus on building accountability, responsiveness and stronger alignment between operational outcomes and people outcomes.

This is a role where your influence will extend well beyond the People & Culture team. You will help shape organisational capability, leadership effectiveness and the future direction of the business itself.

Benefits and Working Arrangements

This is a permanent executive leadership opportunity based on the Gold Coast.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will have genuine visibility across the business and direct involvement in strategic decision making. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced executives while contributing to workforce strategy, organisational planning and long term business performance. You will inherit an established team, strong foundations and executive support to drive meaningful change. The organisation is also embarking on a significant Human Capital Management systems review, providing the opportunity to influence future capability, systems and ways of working across the business.

While flexibility exists, this is a highly visible leadership role where relationships matter. The successful candidate will spend meaningful time building connections across the business, supporting leaders and understanding the realities of a large operational workforce. Travel across project locations will form part of the role.

A Bit About You

You are at your best when operating where business strategy, leadership and people outcomes intersect.

You enjoy creating clarity, building accountability and helping leaders achieve better outcomes through their teams. You are comfortable challenging ideas, influencing decisions and driving change, but you do so through credibility, professionalism and strong relationships rather than hierarchy.

You understand the realities of operational environments and know how to balance commercial outcomes with practical people solutions. You are equally comfortable discussing workforce strategy in an executive meeting as you are building trust with operational leaders and frontline teams.

Most importantly, you enjoy building capability in others and creating environments where people can perform at their best.

Desired Skills & Experience

You will bring senior People & Culture leadership experience gained within construction, infrastructure, mining, resources or similarly complex project based environments. Experience leading sizeable teams and delivering enterprise wide people strategies will be highly regarded.

You will possess strong employee and industrial relations capability, with exposure to enterprise agreements, workforce engagement, investigations and organisational change. Just as importantly, you will have demonstrated success translating strategy into action and delivering outcomes through others.

The successful candidate will be commercially minded, operationally credible and capable of building trust across diverse stakeholder groups. You will bring maturity, confidence and leadership presence, balanced with humility and a genuine desire to help people succeed.

This is an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on a business that genuinely recognises the strategic value of its people. The foundations are already in place. The executive support is there. The growth trajectory is clear.

For the right leader, the influence and impact of this role will be substantial.
