Area Manager | Civil - Transport Infrastructure

Our client is delivering one of the most significant transport infrastructure programs currently underway in South East Queensland and Karan & Co. is engaged to search and appoint this key leadership role.

Structured as a joint venture between several highly regarded infrastructure contractors the project will play a critical role in improving connectivity, supporting population growth and shaping the future of one of Australia’s fastest growing regions.

With works spanning major road, rail and integrated transport infrastructure this is a long term program that will create opportunities well beyond the initial delivery phase.

The project is currently progressing through its early stages, providing the rare opportunity to influence how major packages are planned, structured and delivered before construction reaches full scale.

The leadership team is focused on attracting high calibre people early, creating an environment where experienced infrastructure professionals can contribute meaningfully, build strong teams and help shape project outcomes from the ground up.

The Opportunity

This role sits at Area Manager level but operates with a scope and level of influence more commonly associated with a Construction Manager position.

You will take ownership of a significant section of civil works on a major transport infrastructure package, leading planning, constructability, delivery strategy and execution across complex multidisciplinary interfaces.

The role provides exposure to large scale civil, transport and infrastructure delivery within a collaborative joint venture environment where decisions made today will influence project outcomes for years to come.

What makes this opportunity particularly compelling is timing.

The project remains in its formative stages, allowing the successful candidate to contribute well before peak delivery activity commences.

Rather than inheriting someone else’s methodology, you will help shape the approach, influence key decisions and establish delivery frameworks that support long term success.

This is a career defining opportunity for someone who enjoys building capability, leading teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects that genuinely leave a legacy.

Benefits and Working Arrangements

The role will initially be based in Brisbane, allowing the successful candidate to contribute during planning, mobilisation and early project development while maintaining their current lifestyle and commitments. As the project transitions into major delivery activities, the role will relocate to the Sunshine Coast in 2027.

Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates considering a permanent move.

Importantly, the project team understands that senior infrastructure professionals often have existing commitments. For the right candidate, a later commencement date can be accommodated to ensure the transition is managed properly.

Beyond the project itself, this opportunity provides exposure to a major joint venture environment, significant leadership responsibility and a long term project pipeline that will create future progression opportunities as the program expands.

A Bit About You

You enjoy taking ownership of complex work and creating structure where others see uncertainty.

You are comfortable leading engineers, site teams and subcontractors while maintaining visibility across programme, commercial performance, stakeholder management and delivery outcomes.

You understand how major infrastructure projects operate and can balance technical requirements with practical construction realities.

You are equally comfortable contributing during planning and design phases as you are leading delivery once construction activities are underway.

Most importantly, you enjoy being part of projects where your input genuinely influences the outcome rather than simply executing an established plan.

Desired Skills & Experience

You will likely bring experience operating at Area Manager, Project Manager or Construction Manager level within major civil, transport, road, rail or infrastructure projects.

Experience delivering complex earthworks, drainage, pavement or large scale civil packages will be highly regarded.

You will possess strong leadership capability, commercial awareness and the ability to build productive relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.

Experience working within alliance, joint venture or highly collaborative project environments will be advantageous.

Most importantly, you will be someone who enjoys contributing to projects of significance and sees the value in joining early, building influence and helping shape a project before it reaches peak delivery.

This is an opportunity to be part of a landmark infrastructure program from the beginning. The scope is substantial, the timing is unique and the long term impact on the region will be significant.

For the right person, it offers the chance to influence a project that will become one of Queensland’s defining transport infrastructure investments.
